Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrived on the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in late 1992, about a year and a half after the first game, and became one of the best-selling games of the whole 16-bit era.

Dr. Robotnik is back with his old plan to conquer the world, and once again he needs the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic sets out to stop him, but this time he is not alone: he is joined by Miles "Tails" Prower, a two-tailed fox who can spin his tails to fly. A second player can take control of Tails at any time.

The game is still a fast 2D platformer, but the number of zones grew from six to eleven, with two acts in most of them, so there is far more variety than in the original. Levels are built for even higher speed, and the new spin dash lets Sonic blast off from a standstill. Rings are scattered everywhere and protect you from damage, and every zone ends with a fight against Robotnik in one of his machines. The game also introduced the pseudo-3D half-pipe special stages, a split-screen two-player race mode, and Super Sonic for those who collect all seven Chaos Emeralds.
