The Lion King is a 1994 Virgin Interactive platformer based on the famous Disney film. It is known for animation that was stunning for 16 bits, music from the film and, honestly, quite a high difficulty.
Story
The game follows the film. In the first half you play as young Simba: you explore the Pride Lands, escape the hyenas in the elephant graveyard and run from the wildebeest stampede. In the second half Simba grows up and returns to challenge Scar and take his place in the Circle of Life.
Features
- Young Simba jumps on enemies and roars to stun them.
- Adult Simba fights with his paws, throws enemies and lands powerful blows.
- Bonus stages with Timon and Pumbaa where you catch bugs.
- Famous scenes: "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", the stampede and the final battle on Pride Rock.
Controls
The Sega gamepad layout (A, B, C and Start) is shown under the game window, and you can change it in the emulator settings. A gamepad works best, and on a phone an on-screen gamepad appears.
Tips
- Roar before jumping on porcupines and beetles: stunned enemies are safer.
- The "Can't Wait to Be King" stage is hard because of the rhino jumps: watch which way the giraffe or hippo head is facing.
- In the stampede stage watch the dust: it shows where the next animal will come from.
