Super Mario Bros 3

Super Mario Bros 3 came out in 1988 and is still considered one of the best NES games. Compared to the first game it is huge: new suits, a world map with mini-games and dozens of secrets.

Story

Bowser and his seven children, the Koopalings, have stolen the magic wands of the kings of seven lands and turned the rulers into animals. Mario and Luigi travel through eight worlds, from Grass Land to Giant Land and Bowser's Dark Land, to recover the wands and rescue Princess Peach.

Suits and items

• Super Leaf gives the raccoon suit: Mario can fly after a running start and attack with his tail.
• Frog Suit is great for swimming.
• Tanooki Suit adds flight plus turning into an invincible statue.
• Goomba's Shoe lets you hop over spikes.
• Warp Whistle takes you to the Warp Zone.

World map

Between levels Mario walks across a map with Toad Houses full of gifts, a card matching game, Koopaling airships and wandering enemies. Items can be stored and used right on the map.

Controls

• Arrow keys move
• Z A button
• X B button
• Enter Start
• Space Select

You can remap the keys in the emulator settings, and on a phone an on-screen gamepad appears.

Tips

• The first whistle is hidden in 1-3: crouch on the white block near the end of the level for a few seconds and Mario drops behind the background.
• Do not waste the Tanooki Suit and the Leaf on easy levels, keep them for the airships.
• In two-player mode players take turns on the map and can steal cards from each other.
