Super Mario Bros

Super Mario Bros came out in 1985 and became Nintendo's most famous game. It was often sold together with the console, so for millions of players video games began with the mustached plumber.

Story

Bowser, the King of the Koopas, has kidnapped the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario (or his brother Luigi in two-player mode) sets off to rescue her through 8 worlds of 4 levels each. Every world ends with a castle and a bridge over lava, but until the very last castle the princess is not there: "Our princess is in another castle".

What is in the game

• Super Mushroom makes small Mario big, and the Fire Flower lets him throw fireballs.
• Starman gives short invincibility.
• Coins: every 100 give an extra life.
• Pipes: you can go down some of them and find secret rooms full of coins.
• Warp Zones are secret passages that take you straight to later worlds.

Controls

• Arrow keys move
• Z A button
• X B button
• Enter Start
• Space Select

You can remap the keys in the emulator settings, and on a phone an on-screen gamepad appears.

Hold X (the B button) to run: with a running start Mario jumps farther and higher.

Tips

• In 1-2, walk along the ceiling at the end of the level to find the first Warp Zone to worlds 2, 3 and 4.
• 4-2 has a Warp Zone straight to worlds 6, 7 and 8.
• You can earn many lives by bouncing on a Koopa shell next to the stairs.
• Save in the emulator before castles: the original had almost no continues.
